The Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department recently launched the “She Plays Aurora” campaign to encourage more girls to participate in youth sports.

As part of the campaign, the city hosted its first-ever free Sports Trial Day at the Southeast Recreation Center.

A 2024 study shows that girls who play sports often have lower levels of anxiety and depression and feel a greater sense of purpose and belonging.

Nearly 100 girls attended the inaugural event.
