Medical professionals at HCA HealthONE Aurora are working with the city to break the cycle of youth violence through the Standing Against Violence Every Day program. Injury prevention and trauma nurse Charles Williams says patients treated for violent injuries are 44% more likely to return to the ER, a pattern known as cyclic violence where surviving one injury increases the risk of the next. By counseling at-risk youth and distributing Stop the Bleed kits in local schools, the trauma team is taking prevention beyond the operating room and into the community.
