Our community comes together to celebrate Juneteenth 2026. The NAACP teamed up with the city, Restoration Christian Fellowship and other organizations to host the annual event. It took place at Restoration, a non-denominational church, and featured live music, a resource fair and a chance to be the first to tour the new King's Crossing Village affordable housing community. It's located next to the church and was the dream of its late pastor and founder. The city contributed $1 million dollars in ARPA funds to the project in 2022. It's expected to open later this summer and features a variety of wrap around, on-site services.
Juneteenth celebrates June 19, 1865 - the day slaves in Texas learned they were free, two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
