What does the date of July 27th mean to you? Not only is it the day in 1953 that the Korean War ended, but here in Aurora, in 2026, it's the day we dedicated our city's new Korean War Memorial. 

The memorial is located at General's Park by the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. It honors Korean troops and those from 21 allied nations, led by the United States, who helped South Korea defend itself from an invasion by North Korea supported by China and the Soviet Union (Russia). 

It was a collective effort by the international community to defend the universal values of freedom, democracy and human dignity. 

More than 178,000 South Korean and U.N. forces died in combat and more than half a million were wounded. Between 1.5 and three million civilians also died during the Korean War.

The U.N. Heritage for the Korean War, the city of Aurora, Adams County and a number of other organizations worked together over a number or years to make the memorial a reality.
