Michaela Halton, a flag football player from Overland High School, is AuroraTV’s Athlete of the Month from Cherry Creek Schools for September 2026. Halton leads the state in interceptions and has also excelled on the basketball court, becoming the first girls basketball player in school history to score 1,000 points. She also shines in the classroom as an AP Scholar with a 4.0 GPA.

Yasmin Castillo, a flag football player from Aurora Central High School, is AuroraTV’s Athlete of the Month from Aurora Public Schools for September 2026. Castillo is the team’s quarterback and was named team MVP for her efforts leading the Trojans on the field. After high school, she hopes to pursue a career helping animals.

Plus, previous Athlete of the Month, Maddie Lange, of Cherokee Trail High School broke the girls cross country 5K state record by running a 16:30.29 at the Liberty Bell Invitational in Littleton.  The time was also the fastest recorded by a high school girl in the United States in 2026.

The state record had stood since 1989 when Melody Fairchild, regarded as the most decorated girls distance runner in Colorado history, ran a 16:45.
