Freedom and resilience. Those are the themes of this year's Aurora Juneteenth Celebration. Omar Montgomery, President of the Rocky Mountain State Conference NAACP, shares a special message about the event. Click the video above to hear it.

This year's Juneteenth celebration takes place Saturday, June 20, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Restoration Christian Fellowship, and everyone is welcome. There'll be a health fair, kids' activities, entertainment, music and more.  The event is hosted by the Aurora branch of the NAACP, the Rocky Mountain State Conference NAACP, the city of Aurora and many other community organizations.

The event will also include a tour of Kings Crossing Village, a new affordable housing community next door to Restoration.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their freedom - more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

A Community Day of Service, Celebration, and Opportunity

The Aurora Branch NAACP, Rocky Mountain State Conference NAACP (Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming), Restoration Christian Fellowship, the City of Aurora, and numerous community partners are proud to present Juneteenth 2026: Freedom & Resilience.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Today, Juneteenth serves as both a celebration of freedom and a reminder of the ongoing work required to build equitable, thriving communities.

This year's event embraces the national Juneteenth theme of Freedom & Resilience and will focus on service, community engagement, health and wellness, economic opportunity, housing, and family-centered activities. The celebration is designed to bring together residents, community organizations, businesses, faith leaders, elected officials, and public agencies in a shared commitment to strengthening Aurora and supporting its residents.
