Aurora's Historic Coal Creek Schoolhouse Hosts School Days Program
Start Time (in seconds)
End Time (in seconds)

Just down the road from the modern Aurora Municipal Center, you'll find the historic Coal Creek Schoolhouse. It's located just east of Chambers on First Avenue and was designated an Aurora historic landmark in 2001. It was built in 1927 to replace the original Coal Creek School which burned down. Both were in a rural area that is now northeast Aurora.

The city bought the Coal Creek Schoolhouse in 1975 and moved it to its current location in 2011. It now gives us a glimpse of the past.

The Aurora History Museum is once again hosting Coal Creek Schools Days this summer at the schoolhouse. It's free and takes place every Friday at 10:30 a.m. through August 7, except on holidays. The museum and its city partners provide a different program each week.

Coal Creek School Days kicked off on June 5 with a fun and hands-on lesson about historic toys and games. Learn more by heading to AuroraMuseum.org and clicking on the "Programs and Events" tab.
