Legends of Aurora
Community Impact Award
Legends of Aurora is indeed a community legend, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2020. This father- and-son operation is not only known for its excellent bar food, friendly atmosphere and hospitality, but also its involvement in the community. In fact, giving back is this central Aurora sports grill’s philosophy. Even before the pandemic, owner Steve Sundberg was actively involved with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Aurora program and the city’s Parks and Recreation Board. Over the years, Legends of Aurora donated funds to causes like the sports scholarships for Rangeview High School and the Aurora Police Association and food to 9 Health Fair volunteers, high school sports teams and the Taste of Buckley AFB Family Day. They kicked it up a notch in 2020, giving funds to organizations like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and donating more than a thousand meals to Aurora Public Schools
families, Comitis Crisis Center and the Aurora Police Spouses Association. Giving back during the pandemic kept their staff of 24 employed while addressing food insecurity in the community. To stay in business when times were the toughest, they created heated outdoor spaces for customers to watch sports, tapped into federal aid to support employee retention and posted funny, quirky videos on social media to keep their regulars coming back. Despite the uncertainty, Steve realized that it was his responsibility to demonstrate a positive and determined attitude for both employees and customers.
