Completed in 1966, Aurora Rampart Reservoir is a small 1300 acre feet reservoir just east of Roxborough State Park, and is used to collect water from the Strontia Springs.
Homestake Reservoir is located on Homestake Creek in the West Slope's Eagle River basin, not far from the Holy Cross Wilderness. Completed in 1967, the original filing for the Homestake water rights was made in 1954.
Agriculture is vital to Colorado's economy, so when Aurora had the option to purchase water in the Rocky Ford area, a partnership was developed between the city and the local farmers to ensure viability of the area.
